Bacanora is a Sonoran agave spirit, from Agave pacifica/yaquiana, a unique mezcal with it's own name and identity. Bacanora is a cultural tradition that has persisted for over 300 years, passed on through generations, and perservered through 77 years of prohibition that ended in 1992. Bacanora now has a Designation of Origin established in 2000, limited to 35 counties in the mountains of Sonora Mexico. Bacanora is the northernmost mezcal DO and closest to the United States. Bacanora is also unique in that it is part of Arizonas history and heritage- bacanora was commercially produced in Tucson from 1890-1915, and remains part of Arizonas cultural landscape. This is because we share a common crossborder ecosystem- the Sonora Desert, with a shared history and culture. We call this shared cross border bio-cultural region "Sonorense".
